Portrait photographer Claiborne Swanson Frank was born in Naples, Florida and raised in San Francisco, California. Claiborne is a self-taught photographer who spent her early career in the fashion industry. Claiborne moved to New York in 2007 and worked at Vogue under Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, she left the magazine in 2009. Shortly thereafter, she began to pursue a career in photography. In 2010 Claiborne exhibited her first body of work, “Indigo Light,” a collection of portraits of women in her life which served as inspiration for her debut book, Assouline’s American Beauty which was published in the spring of 2012. In tandem with the book’s release, Claiborne had her first solo show at Lu Magnus gallery. Claiborne’s image of American Beauty’s cover girl Lily Aldridge will be on display at the de Young museum in San Francisco through the summer of 2012.
Currently, Claiborne is a contributing photographer for Vogue. Claiborne has photographed campaigns for Aerin Lauder’s lifestyle brand Aerin, Estee Lauder private label perfume, and Michael Kors. She resides in Los Angeles with her husband James and their dogs Blue and Gator.
